Top Talk of the API Conference
(Vienna, 19.05.2023) Artem Kalinichenko won the prize for the best talk at the recent API in Germany. His presentation on a genome-wide CRISPR screening approach to identify and study key factors essential for human lymphocyte function stood out for its groundbreaking insights.
API (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Pädiatrische Immunologie) is an esteemed association of physicians and scientists from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, united by their passion for understanding immunological diseases. Their primary objectives revolve around enhancing early detection, investigating the origins of immunological conditions, and advancing therapeutic approaches. The API conference, held at Kloster Banz, Germany from May 4th to 6th, was centered around the compelling theme of “Inflammation & Immune Dysregulation in Inborn Errors of Immunity.”
Artem Kalinichenko’s award-winning talk delved into the role of human lymphocytes in immune defense and homeostasis. These cells require a precisely controlled molecular program to function optimally, and any disruptions in this intricate system can lead to severe, even life-threatening ailments. Artem and his colleagues devised an innovative, unbiased genome-scale screening method to identify and explore key factors and molecular pathways involved in regulating lymphocyte function. Their findings open up new avenues for understanding the complexities of immune responses and potential therapeutic interventions.
